Verde Springs Public Outreach
As we have learned more about Verde Headwater springs, we have shared what we learn with you. With support from the Nina Mason Pulliam Charitable Trust, SSI hopes to reach many of the Verde River Basin’s 49,000 residents and its numerous visitors.
What we’ve Seen so far!
The Pulliam Verde Springs Inventory project has brought us to amazing places in the Verde River Watershed. So far we have..
Inventoried 32 springs, including 14 newly mapped springs in the Verde River Watershed.
Had a wonderful time at the Verde Valley Birding and Nature Festival Family Day. We brought bugs to color, and found plenty of artistic talent!
Put on a free volunteer workshop, where we connected with residents of the Verde Valley at the lovely Camp Verde Community Library, talked about the multidimensionality of Verde River springs, and visited Montezuma Well. We saw a huge array of blooming flora, invertebrates, and bird life on our field trip!
Inventoried springs near the headwaters of spring-fed Fossil Creek.
Went to the headwater springs of the Verde River near Paulden.
Journeyed into Sycamore Canyon Wilderness, where we inventoried springs and saw impressive flood effects from our incredible winter snowpack.
Visited several remarkable springs that hosted springsnails (our favorite) near the confluence of Gap Creek and the Verde River.
We were guided by a community scientist to 9 unmapped springs in Oak Creek, as well as to an unreported, spring-fed perennial tributary of Oak Creek. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us!
